"The Declaration of Ignorance"

"You may know, what you know, about what you know, but that doesn't mean that you know all there is to know, about what you know".

—Dr. Ray Hagins

"The Declaration of Ignorance"

"Maat-Hotep" brothers and sisters. The above statement is one of the truest expressions that any human being could ever utter. It's a statement that reflects the eternal principal that knowledge is infinite and that no man, woman, or child can ever "know it all". Regardless of how much we know, or think we know, there is always more to learn and we should continuously be striving to learn and grow in knowledge; however, there is a process to this. It is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to teach someone who thinks that they know everything. The title of this page is called "The Declaration of Ignorance". The reason for this is because before learning can take place in any field, or on any subject, there must be an open admittance of ignorance. To be ignorant does not mean that someone is "dumb" or "stupid". Those terms imply that the person is incapable of learning. To be ignorant just simply means that you are without knowledge, in other words, you just don’t know. There is absolutely nothing wrong with saying or admitting that you don’t know something. In fact this is the first and most critical step in acquiring new information. There is proverb that states: "The man who knows something knows that he knows nothing at all". However, this does not mean that we should be conceited or take pride in our ignorance, but that the acknowledgement of our ignorance is an important prerequisite and should act as the doorway to growing beyond our limited patterns of thinking.

As "conscious" hip-hop artists, our goal is to produce music that is "enlightening" as well as "entertaining" As you’ve probably read in our mission statement "Our mission is to awaken our people to right knowledge of ourselves, our history and the awesome power that we posses as a people through the medium of hip-hop music". But this is in no way meant to insinuate that we know everything or have all the answers to our people’s problems or the world’s problems. That statement is only an affirmation of our lifetime goal and commitment to sharing the knowledge we gain (while simultaneously remaining open to receive knowledge from others) for the purposes of empowering and uplifting our people, using the vehicle of hip-hop. Most of the historical, political and social information placed on our website is the result of extensive research that we’ve done over periods of time and felt compelled to share with our fans, listeners and supporters. But as human beings who are seeking growth and development, the information that you both view and hear on our website, will be subject to evolution. In other words, as we grow, you grow! So it is imperative that we all make a personal "Declaration of Ignorance", so that we can lay a solid foundation for the perpetual growth and expansion of knowledge — and thus POWER!!
